Amaranth cave, one of the important and holiest shrines in Hinduism, is located in Jammu & Kashmir. The cave is situated about 141 km from Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu & Kashmir. The cave is covered with snow throughout the year, except the very short period of summer when it is open for pilgrims.

Before planning to go somewhere, the first question that strike us is that how to reach there. The State Transport and the Private operators provide bus services from Jammu to Pahalgam and Baltal. These are two places from where you start your journey to Amarnath Temple.
You can reach by flight. The nearest airport to Amarnath is Srinagar Airport. There are no direct trains to Amarnath. The nearest station is Jammu, 178 km away from Amarnath.
Tip – Children below the age of 13 and people above 75 years are not allowed and also pregnant woman are also not advised to take this journey
Best time to Visit to Amarnath Cave
The temple is open for pilgrims in the month of July and August. You can go this time and get the blessings of lord Shiva.

There is Shiva Lingam which is formed naturally from ice which gradually waxes. As per religious belief, it has been claimed that the lingam grows and shrinks with the phases of the moon reaching it height during the summer festival. Alongside the Shiva lingam are also ice lingams of Parvati and Ganesha.
