When is Ram Navami 2025? Puja Muhurat and Puja Vidhi

Ram Navami 2025 Information (Puja Muhurat and Puja Vidhi)

Ram Navami is a Hindu festival celebrated every year on the month of Chaitra in the Hindu calendar, on the ninth day of Shukla Paksha (bright fortnight) during the Spring Navratri festival.

This festival marks the birth of Lord Rama of Ayodhya, and important to the Vaishnava tradition of Hinduism in India because he is Lord Vishnu’s seventh avatar.

In India, Ram Navami is celebrated by Vaishnava Hindus all across the country. The celebration is the grandest in Ayodhya, which is the legendary city of Lord Rama’s birthplace, and the setting for the great epic Ramayana.

It is also celebrated in other places of Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, and Nepal.

Legend of Ram Navami

Ram Navami is the celebration of the birth of Lord Rama: the descent of God Vishnu in his seventh avatar. He was born in Ayodhya in the Treta Yuga, to King Dasharatha and Queen Kaushalya. In the great epic Ramayana, he was known as “Maryada Purushottam”, which translates to “The Supreme Man of Honour and Righteousness”.  He is an embodiment of inspiration and perfection for his devotees.

King Dasharatha and his three queens, Kaushalya, Kaikeyi, and Sumitra, were not being able to give birth. Therefore, on the advice of Rishi Vashishtha, they performed a yagna. From that yagna emerged Yajna, the God of yagna, with a blessed kheer. When the queens consumed the kheer, all of them gave birth to sons: Kaushalya to Rama, Kaikeyi to Bharat, and Sumitra to Lakshmana and Shatrughna.

Significance of Ram Navami

Ram Navami is significant in establishing the victory of good over evil, and Dharma (righteousness) over Adharma (sinfulness). Worshipping Lord Rama on this day signifies the removal of all bad and evil forces, and accepting the divine forces to reign on earth.

Devotees start the day by offering water to the Sun God or Surya Devta. It is believed that Sun God was Lord Rama’s ancestor. In several places and temples, this day is marked by devotional worship, kirtans, bhajans, and processions. Many areas celebrate with chariot festivals or rath yatras, and many places also celebrate the ceremonial marriage anniversary of Lord Rama and Sita.

How to Celebrate Ram Navami?

Many devotees start the day by offering Jal or water to Surya Devta. Many people go to the Hindu temples, but many Vaishnavas also observe it at home. In temples, the idols of Lord Rama are dressed in beautiful clothes, set respectfully on a cradle, and worshipped. Many people read the Ramayana and indulge in some moral reflections on this day. Fasting is also prevalent among many devotees.

Several temples and religious groups hold discussions on the Ramayana and feed the needy. Charity is, after all, an essential part of most Hindu festivals. Several devotees visit Ayodhya during this time to take a dip in the holy Sarayu river and visit the Rama temple to witness the celebrations.
